Why Does DPI Deviation Occur?

DPI (Dots Per Inch) is determined by the distance between the optical sensor lens and the tracking surface. Thicker replacement mouse skates (e.g. glass skates, Tiger ICE, Corepad) or soft cloth mousepad sponge compression change this focal distance by 0.2mm–0.5mm, which changes your effective DPI by ±3% to 10%!

Best Practices For Measuring

Align the left side of your mouse flush against a hardcover book, phone, or credit card on your desk. Click and hold the target ball above, slide the mouse rightward until it touches the second marked object set at the chosen distance, and release.
